Digital assets are getting taken to the skies after one travel agency partners with BitPay to accept crypto payments.
The airline network Universal Air Travel Plan (UATP) says it is teaming up with cryptocurrency payments provider BitPay to enable travel payments in Bitcoin (BTC), Dogecoin (DOGE), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and six other altcoins.
Co-founder and CEO of BitPay Stephen Pair shares that UATP customers can enjoy the benefits of crypto payments without having the responsibility of buying and holding coins themselves.
“Cryptocurrency continues to gain momentum as a safe and trusted payment option, especially for high-value purchases like travel. BitPay’s partnership with UATP provides their customers with the inherent benefits of blockchain payments without having to handle, hold, or buy crypto themselves.
UATP’s broad network of airlines [is] also now capable of reaching millions of new global customers who choose to pay with crypto regardless of what wallet they hold since BitPay supports all crypto wallets.”
Since launching in 2011, BitPay has processed more than $5 billion in blockchain payments.
UATP president and CEO Ralph Kaiser believes the partnership will put the company in an advantageous position.
“The UATP – BitPay partnership brings together the perfect combination of two experts in airline and cryptocurrency payments.
Crypto payment stands to be a market changer in the industry; this partnership creates the opportunity for the airlines to attract new customers and to be a first-mover in this very exciting space.”
